The Broken Heart Set
Finally. Some of the recordings are a little fuzzy. Sorry, but I’m done.
Things Worth Writing Home About
Finally. Some of the recordings are a little fuzzy. Sorry, but I’m done.
$179 for a lawn seat to Phish? This country really has gone to hell in a handbasket. I paid less for the Coventry Festival and the IT Festival and they included two days of music and camping. So much for summer reminiscences.
Phish is back, kids, and not just for some three-day stint at Hampton. That was quicker than I expected.
Friday, November 14, 2008 @ 9pm, no cover/no drink minimum. One hour of mostly new material. Come check it out, should be a good time.
766 Grand Street - Take Brooklyn-bound L to Grand St (4th Stop). Stain is about 1 block west of the subway station.
Anyone want to go see Keith Caputo (Life of Agony) at Mercury Lounge, 8/23 at 18:30? Ticket is $15, show probably won’t be long. Keith Caputo is one of the most influential artists I’ve ever listened to, both with LOA and solo. His solo work is less heavy and arguably more poetic, but his LOA stuff is equally as brilliant and probably more revolutionary, taking metal and making it so much more than angry words you can’t understand. Knowing Keith’s performance tendancies, it is highly unlikely that he will perform a lot of LOA material, but you never know
.
First come, first serve. If I don’t have any volunteers by the 22nd, I’ll drag one of you with me.
That’s right, kids. I’m back. At least for now. Come experience the sounds I make for an hour on a Tuesday night in July. No cover! No drink minimum! (That means it costs you nothing except your time.)
I’ve never played an hour set before. We’ll see what happens. There will be one cover tune. Maybe two. Check out some demos here.
I’ve been feeling a little angry lately, and I think it might have something to do with the glaring lack of quality music coming to New York this summer. George Clinton and P-funk will be around, that’s true, and I’m going to brave that ferry to see Radiohead, but otherwise things are looking a little bleak or sold-out. How did I miss Pearl Jam and The Cure? Honestly, I must be getting old. And the Eagles are playing three shows?
Currently, all that’s left is Collective Soul with Blues Traveler and Live. Who’s with me?
23 And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he looked up and said, “I see men, but they look like trees, walking.” 25 Then Jesus [3] laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.
~Mark 8:23-25
I was sitting here listening to Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs (courtesy of Tony L.) for the first time. Actually, I was in the kitchen, which is right across from where I’m sitting. But that’s not the point. The point is, I started hearing noises, some like lowing, some like birds, and still others like voices, distant, close, old, and new. All of these sounds were coming in over percussion and a strummed instrument of some sort, probably a guitar. It all mixed and blended together to make this hypnotic, transient sort of…noise. Five years ago, I would have said it sucked. But I’ve learned something since then. I’ve learned that at first, sometimes, things feel really, really weird. The temptation is to turn away from the activity. But in those times, I’ve also learned that it can be a good idea to see the activity through to the end. You may find yourself settling into it more than you’d imagined.
And don’t give me any lip about the pleasure in sin. That’s obviously not what I’m talking about here.
