Oh yeah

Posted in Music at 23:16 pm by Josh

Okay, I’m actually pretty proud of this one.  I started this last night at 11:30 and I just finished it a little while ago.  Not only have I corrected the mono/stereo issue, but I’ve enhanced the guitars and split two tracks into four.  This song makes me feel completely at peace.  I hope you enjoy it in its new form.

Rob Who is Doing What?

Posted in Uncategorized, Announcements at 01:17 am by Josh

I just found out that Rob Zombie is doing the ninth installment of Halloween.  It’s going to be called Rob Zombie’s: Halloween.  I’d boycott but production is already underway and John Carpenter gave Rob his blessing.  With Debra Hill and Moutapha Akkad no longer with us, that doesn’t give me a leg to stand on.  So instead, I’m looking forward to seeing what on earth that crazy guy is going to do.  But if he replaces Halloween’s suspense with gore, he’s going to get a very curt letter from me ;)   <—– why do programs insist on taking my text and making it all girly?

Novel Update

Posted in Books, Today at 16:51 pm by Josh

I’m up to page 83 in my re-write of Dark Island.  It’s such a task to write a book but to re-write one seems to be even worse.  It’s actually going more quickly than I planned but sometimes I feel like I should be doing something else with my time.  I guess that’s why I wish I could actually get paid to write…it would alleviate the guilt =)

So I’ll give you the update on the novel (not that any of you read the original).  There are still five characters; William, Sara, Alyssa, Colleen and Ryan.  The new characters are, however, considerably more developed and much more mature.  They are less gullable and more observant.  Ed, too, has a more believable personality and the descriptions of the scenery are a million times better.  They have already made the trip to upstate New York, having stopped in Pattersonville and Utica, and Alyssa and Sara both have dreams, as opposed to William and the original Sara in version 1.  They are also driving in separate cars.  The romance between Colleen and Ryan has already started to develop and Ryan isn’t a big jerk like he was in the original.  At page 83, Ed has just finished acting like a sketch-ball, sufficiently freaking out Sara and Alyssa, and William and Ryan are about to search the attic where they are going to find something creepy…I can’t tell you what.  I don’t know where Colleen is.  I hope she hasn’t drowned…

Don’t worry; I forsee them all sitting down to a nice dinner by page 100.

Old Music, New Recording

Posted in Music, Today at 00:31 am by Josh

Okay, I’ve revamped Dimensions again.  Good news, kids: It’s now in STEREO.  This took me a LONG time to get right and I’m still not happy with the middle section but if I have to hear this theme squeal out of my guitar (or Dan’s) one more time, it might be the end of me.  So this is what you get =) Enjoy it anyway!

Stigmata Decoded (Unless You’re Catholic)

Posted in Theology at 10:57 am by Josh

I recently had a conversation with the ever-insightful Dan Warriner (Dan doesn’t have a website but he does have a girlfried who does, though it has less to do with theological issues but the girlfriend has a cousin with a weblog that does lean more towards theological issues and it just so happens that the girlfriend has a sister with a weblog who is my favorite of the bunch and the source of my knowledge of all aforementioned individuals) regarding the myths behind the Stigmata.  For those who are unfamiliar, Stigmata refers to the appearance of wounds or the presence of pain on parts of the body that reflect the wounds of Jesus Christ on the cross.  This can include the hands, the feet, and the head where He wore the crown of thorns.

Most depictions of Jesus Christ suggest that nails were driven through his hands.  This seems to be regardless of denomination.  However, Dan suggests (and rightly so) that driving nails through the palms of a person’s hand would not support his or her weight on a cross.  The nails would actually have to be driven through the wrist between the ulna and the radius (considerably more painful, might I add).  I believe he suggested that the Greek word for “palm” includes the wrist and therefore may have been misinterprested during translation (if this is inaccurate would you kindly leave a comment with the correct information?).  So realistically speaking, if one finds a hole in the middle of his or her hand (such as yours truly three weeks ago), it would unlikely be characteristic of Stigmata because the hole would actually have to be in the wrist.

There, now you can say you learned something today (at East 9th Street, nonetheless!).

9/11/2001 + 5

Posted in Culture, War History, News, Theology, Reflections, Today, New York City at 09:01 am by Josh

Okay, I’m going to keep this short.

When I was younger, I always heard about the assassination of President Kennedy.  My father and mother tell me exactly where they were when they heard about it.  Before that, people remember exactly where they were when Pearl Harbor was bombed.  I always wondered what would happen in my life time that would become my “I remember exactly where I was” story.  As most can relate, it was 9/11.

I was going to go on a political tirade but I’ve changed my mind.  Would you, rather, join me in prayer today, not only for the families and victims of 9/11, but for the American people, and the world.  Pray that we, as a country, can stop looking at all of the bad, the flaws, and the faults of our leadership and their subordinates and start looking at the good that has happened since 9/11.  Pray that those who continue to make threats towards the west in the name of God will come to realize that if the god they are attempting to serve truly is the same as my God, He would never, ever, want this sort of death, destruction, and evil carried out in His name.

And as inappropriate as it may sound to some, please enjoy this day.  The Lord has given it to us when He took it away from so many five years ago.  Let’s rejoice that we’ve been given this time to remember them.

Choosing Life

Posted in Theology, Church at 16:29 pm by Josh

Today I heard a phenomenal sermon by Dr. Paul de Vries from New York Theological Seminary.  I had heard a podcast of him speaking at The Village Church and I remember it striking me as particularly interesting.  This morning, when they introduced a guest speaker, I was elated to get to hear him in person.  He put a really interesting perspective on 9/11, but also on life in general (I was pleased that he did not spend the entire sermon talking about 9/11; he touched on it just enough to be completely appropriate).  Because I’m lazy and not a pastor, I’m not going to go into detail about it.  I will inevitably screw something up.  However, I will say that the general message was, is, and forever shall be, to do those things that equate choosing life.  Of course, this means following God’s commands because all else will lead to death.  I know, I know.  We all die.  But some of us will continue to live.  I’d like for YOU to be one of them =)

My favorite part about Dr. de Vries is that he walks around and uses almost no notes.  Now, while the walking can be distracting, having all of that information so organized and stored in his head is pretty cool =) Overall, a very find Sunday so far!

The Visitor’s Face

By popular demand (that is, demand by the only person who is apparently reading my weblog anymore…), here is the only existing picture of the Visitor from the front.  It’s the best I could do (the little guy is quick!)
